Young Euro Classic 2024

The tradition of a great musical tradition remains alive, as the Young Euro Classic audience was able to experience for themselves two years ago when the Vienna Philharmonic's Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy performed in the Konzerthaus for the first time.

The young musicians from different countries receive intensive training from the orchestra's professionals during the Salzburg Festival -

The program that the Berlin-born conductor Sebastian Weigle is presenting this year in the Konzerthaus with the Summer Academy can rightly be described as “classic”:

It begins with the humorous and elegant Symphonie classique by Sergei Prokofiev, in which the classical influences of Joseph Haydn shine through.

The main work is Felix Mendelssohn's rousing A major symphony, known as the "Italian". And in Robert Schumann's equally classic cello concerto, the Salzburg cellist Julia Hagen combines virtuoso skills with deep emotions.

Works performed:

Sergei Prokofiev
Symphony No. 1 in D major op. 25 (“Symphonie classique”)

Robert Schumann
Concerto for cello and orchestra in A minor, op. 129

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy
Symphony No. 4 A major op. 90 (“Italian”)
