presented by Jazz am Helmholtzplatz e.V.
Allan Praskin is a master of the alto saxophone. He has internalized the Great American Songbook and combines the entire knowledge of 20th-century jazz in his virtuoso, incredibly creative, and nuanced playing. His program consists of older swing songs as well as free jazz pieces.
During his time in New York in the late 1960s, he immersed himself completely in the avant-garde improvisational jazz scene.
For many years, he held a professorship at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz, Austria; for the past few years, he has lived in Berlin. He has been collaborating with Ulli Bartel (violin) for some time; together, the two form a stunning solo duo.
The Brotfabrik is delighted to welcome back a living legend of American jazz, accompanied by a magnificent rhythm section featuring Lars Gühlcke (bass) and Jan Leipnitz (drums).
