Handel: Arias for Counter-Tenor

Countertenor Christopher Ainslie—who made his debut with the Boulez Ensemble last season—and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin present a selection of arias from the operas of George Frideric Handel that celebrate the joys and sorrows of love.

The musicians are joined by students of the Barenboim-Said Akademie who will work with the ensemble for first-hand training in historical performance practice.

Instrumental pieces by Handel’s London contemporaries frame the operatic excerpts:

  • Thomas Arne - Ouvertüre aus „The Judgement of Paris“
  • Georg Friedrich Händel - „Otton, Otton ... Voi ch’udite“ (aus Agrippina)Georg Friedrich Händel - Ouvertüre zu Alcina
  • Georg Friedrich Händel - „Gia l’ebro mio ciglio“ (aus Orlando)
  • Charles Avison - Concerto grosso Nr. 5 d-moll (nach Domenico Scarlatti)
  • Georg Friedrich Händel - „Stille Amare“ (aus Tolomeo, re d'Egitto)
