Talk and Discussion: Quo vadis, America?
Quo Vadis, America? The Past, Present, and Future of Transatlantic Relations Lecture and discussion.
Since the new Trump administration took office in January 2025, people have been witnessing a seemingly dramatic departure from long-standing democratic traditions and the rules-based international order that has characterized the past 75 years. Although the Western alliance has faced various challenges and experienced some lows since World War II, the end of the transatlantic partnership now appears a realistic possibility.
To understand the reasons for this, an analysis of Donald Trump's domestic and foreign policy agenda is necessary. What does the American right intend to do in the future, and how did it gain such influence over the judiciary, the education system, and national, state, and local government institutions? Are values and traditions that once seemed universally valid being eroded? If so, what does this mean for Germany and Europe in the coming years.
