Contemporary History in Dialogue with Frieder Günther and Juliane Seifert

Administration has and has had a central and often underestimated function for the state. But how exactly did it work? And how did it differ in Germany in the 20th century in view of the profound system changes?

Frieder Günther examines these questions based on the administrative culture of the German interior ministries in the Weimar Republic, the Nazi dictatorship, the Federal Republic and the GDR. He focuses on the striking continuities, for example with regard to the structure, the designations and the competencies, but also works out the clear differences in personnel, self-image, internal processes and function.

The presentation of the book by Frieder Günther (Institute for Contemporary History Munich-Berlin) will be followed by a commentary by State Secretary Juliane Seifert from the Federal Ministry of the Interior.

The subsequent panel discussion will be moderated by Hermann Wentker.

Admission is free. Registration is required to participate.
