Musical in two acts for one actor by Georg Kreisler
Adam Schaf is a deeply sad man. The fact that he sings funny songs is the best proof of his sadness – says Georg Kreisler about his title character.
Schaf's memories of his arduous journey out of the war create a cynical assessment of Germany yesterday and today – yet he never loses his sense of humor.
Like life itself, this theater evening is a true balancing act between collapse and hope, between plea and eulogy, or as the author himself says: "We're all afraid! But we're alive! Somehow!"
In his interpretation of Kreisler's Singspiel, Berlin singer and actor Dennis Weissert explores our current relationship to the post-war period, drawing parallels between two realities strongly shaped by existential angst. In doing so, he spans the spectrum from the German cabaret tradition to the glamour of American Broadway, catapulting his audience into a bizarre in-between world.
