Cathrin Pfeifer arranges her own compositions in an incredibly versatile way with music from foreign cultures and different eras.

Thanks to her many years of experience with various musical genres, which she has absorbed in different countries around the world, her music is characterised by her very own unmistakable style.

The accordionist captivates with a wealth of musical ideas, from meditative thoughtfulness to rhythmically accentuated exuberance and virtuosic sonority.

The accordion itself has a fascinating history that is closely linked to the experiences of emigrants and exiles. As a portable and versatile instrument, it was often taken along by people who left their homeland to start a new life in other countries.

On its journey, it absorbed the respective traditions. For many emigrants, the accordion was a symbol of hope and cultural heritage. It enabled them to keep their traditions and memories of home alive as they found their feet in a foreign environment. The melodies were often a mixture of the sounds of their homeland and the new influences. The accordion played a central role in celebrations and gatherings, creating an atmosphere of joy and togetherness.

The concert is part of the exhibition ‘Inside & Outside - Art, Music and Literature in Exile’ at Galerie Amalienpark.
