How can togetherness succeed in times of immigration?
Even almost 35 years after reunification, many still do not see the Federal Republic of Germany as a united country. On the one hand, many things have grown together, but on the other hand, differences in mentality or specifically in wages, wealth and social representation are obvious.
Quite a few older East Germans feel that they do not receive enough interest and appreciation for their achievements in life. West Germans, on the other hand, often wish to look more to the future than to the past in the East.
But could the different perspectives of people from East and West Germany not be a model for our multicultural society, which is characterised by immigration? The question of what role the distinction between ‘East’ and ‘West’ still plays for the next generation also belongs in this context.
