Stars Like Moths / 2 Chapters Love
In 2 Chapters Love, the works of two leading contemporary choreographers are united during an evening of dance. Sol León and Sharon Eyal are both celebrated stars of the international dance scene.
For over thirty years, Sol León and her partner Paul Lightfoot have developed a rich repertoire of compelling dance pieces, which, as diverse as they are, have a strong, innovative voice in contemporary dance.
Powerful and delicate, humorous and poetic, intellectual and dramatic, the movement aesthetics of their pieces have emotional roots in the partnership of the two choreographers. Their distinct style is a hallmark of this joint artistic journey.
Sol León has been working with the Nederlands Dans Theater as an in-house choreographer since 2002 and was an Artistic Advisor to the ensemble from 2012 to 2020.
Recently, Sol Léon has also begun to work as a choreographer in her own right.
One of her first solo works, Stars Like Moths, is now being developed together with the Staatsballett Berlin, a new piece that is as uncompromisingly personal and poetic as ever.
Sharon Eyal enthrals audiences everywhere with her productions and has also taken Berlin by storm with works such as Half Life and Strong. Anyone who has attended her shows knows that the audience doesn’t just watch: it embarks on a journey into a surreal parallel universe, into the fluidity of life itself.
With her team, the Israeli choreographer draws on her own experiences, starting with the nightlife in Tel Aviv, which she has helped to shape through music and performances with Gai Behar and Alon Cohen.
Her work combines the hypnotic power of electronic music with the precision and attention to detail of unusual movement patterns. Increasing levels of tension and rapture leave both the audience and the dancers in a state of ecstasy.
With the aim of unleashing ‘total emotion’, Sharon Eyal is developing a new work called 2 Chapters Love for the Staatsballett Berlin, an extension of her dance piece Love Chapter 2 from 2017.
