Christmas in Westend

Christmas Market in Berlin on 16 and 17 December 2023

It isn’t the ox and donkey that are the animal highlights of this Christmas market, but an elephant – a cycling and talking elephant named Jochen. But why? You can find out for yourself at Weihnachten in Westend on the 3rd weekend of Advent.

The charming Advent festival "Weihnachten in Westend" is one of the small, family markets in Berlin where the neighbourhood comes together to celebrate Advent.

Animal attractions and fairy tales

In addition to Jochen, the trunked animal, mascot and children's favourite, the market also has a nativity scene with live animals and ponies for riding. Another highlight at the Christmas market is the falconry show with free-flying birds of prey showing off their skills.
The stories of the storyteller Rumpumpe in the heated tent also form part of the entertainment, especially for the children.
By the way: Jochen comes from Weimar and is actually a "noble elephant". The Jazz Father Christmases will contribute to the entertainment with their Christmas carols.

Arts & crafts mile at the Christmas market

Artists and craftsmen present their works of art and products on the arts & crafts mile. At the numerous stands they display paintings, ceramics, jewellery, Christmas decorations, handmade toys, cards made from pressed plants, bags and self-made clothing. At the alpaca stand you can not only buy your own spun wool and warm clothes, but also stroke one of the lovely animals.
Craftsmen such as blacksmiths, wood turners and belt makers show their craftsmanship directly on site and let visitors watch them while they work. You are sure to find what you are looking for here in your search for an original gift.
You can keep up your strength with delicious Christmas specialities – both sweet and savoury – and warm up with a mulled wine.
