Märchenhafter Weihnachtsmarkt at the Jagdschloss Grunewald

Christmas Market in Berlin on 7 and 8 December 2024

And if they haven’t died, they still live today at the Märchenhafter Weihnachtsmarkt at the Jagdschloss Grunewald. On the second weekend of Advent, various fairytale characters come to life and transport you on a romantic journey to Christmas fairyland.

After a short walk you will reach the Jagdschloss Grunewald (Grunewald Hunting Lodge) on the shore of the Grunewaldsee lake, hidden deep in the forest. As every year, the Märchenhafter Weihnachtsmarkt takes place in the courtyard of the castle. Far away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, fairytale fans of all ages can look forward to Christmas in the unique atmosphere in the castle’s romantic courtyard.

Märchenhafter Weihnachtsmarkt in Berlin’s oldest castle

The Jagdschloss Grunewald is the oldest surviving castle in Berlin. This year, the Märchenhafter Weihnachtsmarkt will take place for the 18th time at the Renaissance palace built by Elector Joachim II in 1542.

Handicrafts and traditional delicacies

Various exhibitors from the region offer handicrafts and other goods at their stands. Visitors will be spoiled with traditional culinary delights such as fried sausages, gingerbread and roasted almonds as well as mulled wine and hot chocolate.

Real-life fairytale figures

A highlight of the Christmas market at the Jagschloss Grunewald is the visit of Mother Holle, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella and other real-life fairytale figures who mingle with the visitors. You can listen to their stories told by the storyteller. There are also handicraft offerings for the whole family and unique photos for Christmas cards can be taken in the hunting depot. On a small stage, the fairytale action is accompanied by music and after dark, historically dressed night watchmen guide you through the forest back to the bus stop.
