Expert guided tour with art historian Dr. Berit Ruge

The Prussian King Frederick William II acquired Kaninchenwerder in 1793 as an extension to his summer residence, the New Garden. The mysterious wilderness character and the difficult accessibility of the island were ideal conditions to stage the ideas of the Gold and Rosicrucians.

Frederick William II became a member of this secret society as a crown prince. In 1795, Frederick William II had the peacocks brought to the island, which henceforth bore the name Peacock Island.

On a walk across this island steeped in history, we follow in the footsteps of the Gold and Rosicrucians. You will learn, for example, what the peacock has to do with alchemy and what alchemy, which shaped the island as early as the 17th century, has to do with the Gold and Rosicrucians.

Look forward to a "journey" through the darkness into the light, in the spirit of Frederick William II's gold and Rosicrucian motto "per crucem ad lucem". The art historian Dr. Berit Ruge has published her dissertation on this topic.
