Day ticket for your visit to the Museum of European Cultures (Museum Europäischer Kulturen): Collecting, researching, preserving, presenting and communicating everyday culture and realities in Europe from the 18th century to the present is the main focus.
All current and included exhibitions at the Museum Europäischer Kulturen at a glance:
The exhibition shows a cross-section of the diverse collections of the Museum of European Cultures on 700 square metres. With its thematic approach, it picks up discussions about social movements and demarcations. For example, a magnificent gondola from Venice, built in 1910, is representative of all thematic areas from trade and travel to migration and cultural localisation.
On 15 square meters the most important stages of Jesus' life are depicted by more than 300 figures. The master painter Max Vogel built this mountain, but it was last completely assembled in 1940. In 1987, Karl-Heinz Fischer bought the mountain and renewed it with a small technical marvel, which enables the movement of the figures.
The craft of this complex braiding technique has been practiced for several thousand years and now you can experience this fascination: Braided everyday objects from Europe are displayed in the Museum of European Cultures spread across the four exhibition areas of People, Protection, Material and Pattern. One of the highlights is a walk-in room sculpture by artist Olaf Holzapfel and the interactive stations for visitors.
The exhibition "Buzzing Slovenia - Of Bees and People" deals with the tradition of Slovenian beekeeping as well as with innovative approaches in urban beekeeping. Slovenia, rich in forests and with its diverse flora, is considered a bee paradise and is the country with the highest density of beekeepers in the world. The exhibition shows the importance of beekeeping in Slovenian culture and its connection to tradition, handicrafts, sustainability and the harmonious coexistence of humans, animals and nature. At the same time, it addresses the current challenges such as droughts and insecticides, which endanger the bees and their environment.
The exhibition "Flow: The Exhibition on Menstruation" highlights the history, discourses and developments surrounding menstruation and presents personal objects, interviews, music, films and artworks that explore the meaning of menstruation. The exhibition covers topics such as the development of menstrual products, sex education, discourses around menstruation and its representation in pop culture and art. The special exhibition calls for an open discussion about menstruation and its challenges in today's society.
