Winter Film Festival in the Nikolaiviertel

Christmas Market in Berlin from 20 November 2023 to 01 January 2024

“A Feuerzangenbowle has quite a kick! Not because of the hangover. That’s another story. A Feuerzangenbowle is not exactly a punch. It’s something between a drink and witchcraft. Beer sinks into the legs, wine stays on the tongue, liquor crawls into the brain. A Feuerzangenbowle, however, enters into your mind. Smooth and warm, it envelops the soul, takes away the heaviness of the earth and dissolves everything into mist and fog.” – Heinz Rühmann

This year again, until after Christmas, everything revolves around the Feuerzangenbowle – from a cinematic and culinary point of view – around the square at the Nikolaikirche. Twice on weekdays and three times at weekends, you can enjoy the film with Heinz Rühmann free of charge on comfortable sofas and armchairs in the Nikolaiviertel.

Savour the taste of the traditional Feuerzangenbowle...

Make sure to have a cup of Feuerzangenbowle in your hand while watching Die Feuerzangenbowle. Traditionally, the high-proof hot drink is prepared from red wine and fine spices in a large copper kettle. Three burning sugar loaves soaked with rum drip the melting sugar into the warming punch.
Does your surname happen to be Pfeiffer - with three f’s? Then you are the guest of honour at the Winter Film Festival in the Nikolaiviertel and every hour you get a cup of Feuerzangenbowle for free, inspired by the film.

Berlin’s cosiest winter market

Nostalgic little wooden huts and Christmas lighting around the entire Nikolaikirchplatz, curling and all kinds of culinary delicacies make a visit to Berlin’s most cosy winter market perfect for the whole family.

Every Sunday in Advent (except on the Sunday of the dead) at 18:00, "Die Herr'n von der Tankstelle" sing and bring nostalgic charm and hits from old UFA sound films such as "Veronika, der Lenz ist da", "Ein Freund, ein gu-ter Freund" or "Mein kleiner grüner Kaktus". With a lot of humour, the gentlemen bring golden times back to life.
