ABBA vs. Jean-Philippe Rameau
Connecting these two giants of European music history seems audacious: Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764) and ABBA (1972-)! However, even a second listen reveals countless similarities: the originality and catchiness of their melodies, the rhythmic exuberance, and the unwavering popularity of both.
Under the title Dancing Queen, the Lautten Compagney bridges the gap to a time when it was less queens and more kings who were to be found on the dance floor. ABBA's music is played on Baroque instruments and blended with Rameau's music, so that it's almost impossible to distinguish what came from the pen of the high-baroque Frenchman and what from the workshop of the Swedish pop quartet.
The adventurous saxophonist Asya Fateyeva proves to be a true Dancing Queen. With great virtuosity, she coaxes lightning-fast runs as well as the most delicate lyrical vocals from her instrument. With ease, she improvises an endless palette of diverse sounds, moving back and forth between worlds.
You're in the mood for dancing, and when you get the chance: You're a dancing queen!
