On 10 and 11 May, Tempelhof Projekt GmbH is offering a guided tour of the memorial sign ‘nicht mehr zu sehen’ (no longer visible) – a sign against forgetting.
Since September 2024, this written installation has commemorated the Columbia House, an early concentration camp and Gestapo prison on what is now Tempelhof Field. The tour begins at the CHECK-IN visitor centre and leads to the memorial to Georg Seibert (1994). The focus is on the history of the site, architectural and topographical traces, and the development of the two memorial signs from 1994 and 2024.
The tour not only sheds light on the role of the Columbia House in the early Nazi terror regime, but also asks why the site was forgotten for so long.
The tour is led by Martin Bennis, the architect and designer of the new memorial. Bennis specialises in the design of memorial sites and contemporary history exhibitions, including the Death March Memorial in the Belower Wald and the Berlin Wall Documentation Centre.
