Guided tour and conversation with contemporary witness Gilbert Furian
The Stasi detention center in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen was located within a large military restricted area. From the outside, unauthorized persons could only see closed metal gates, watchtowers, surveillance cameras, and armed security personnel. On East Berlin maps, the area was marked as an empty area.
The tour leads past buildings of the Stasi's so-called Operative-Technical Sector, where listening devices and miniature cameras were manufactured, the Stasi's Nazi Archive in the Heike Villa, and "Camp X," where prisoners were forced to perform forced labor from the early 1950s onward.
Following the tour, there will be a discussion with contemporary witness Gilbert Furian in the memorial's cafeteria.
Please book a free ticket for the tour in advance.
