City Councillor Dr. Carola Brückner and Collection Director Carmen Mann will speak at the opening of the expansion of the inclusive offer in the Archaeological Window. The event will take place in the run-up to the Inclusive Annual Reception 2025, which will be held afterwards in the Gothic Hall of the Citadel.

The Archaeological Window - Spandau Castle, the hidden place on the citadel in the Westkurtine, displays excavation finds from the citadel in a large showroom. They all date from the time before the fortress was built and provide a fascinating insight into the settlement of the site from the Slavic period through the High Middle Ages to the early modern period. Among them are 24 of the more than 60 uncovered Jewish gravestones, which were probably removed from the Jewish cemetery in Spandau in the 15th century and used for the construction of the fortress.

The exhibition, which was redesigned ten years ago, was made accessible to people with limited mobility. However, most of the original objects could not be experienced by blind and visually impaired people as they were located in situ in an inaccessible excavation area and in a large display case.

The Archaeological Window can now also be experienced by blind and visually impaired people. It has been expanded to include tactile objects based on the original finds and audio stations. A tactile orientation plan at the entrance and a tactile guidance system also offer the opportunity to explore the exhibition independently.
