Historical photographs and graphic works offer insights into the lives of those excluded from the splendor of the growing metropolis.
Towards the end of the 19th century, Berlin developed into a modern city of over a million inhabitants. Ines Hahn, curator of the photography and topography collection at the Berlin City Museum, and Dr. Michael Bischoff, curator of the fine arts collection, present graphic works and historical photos that illustrate the downside of this rapid development.
Experience striking visual documents of people who were unable to share in the splendor of the metropolis. For them, everyday life in the capital meant a life of poverty.
