A tribute to Helene Weigel
On the eve of her birthday, the Berliner Ensemble, together with artists, colleagues, and experts, pays tribute to its founding artistic director, the actress Helene Weigel – including her master student Katharina Thalbach and her granddaughter Johanna Schall.

She shared not only a lifelong, intimate artistic and human relationship with Bertolt Brecht, but also a shared unconditional will to change conditions towards a more just world.
Remembering her also means commemorating her courage and humanism, which can serve as a compass in current crises.
The event commemorates her in conversations; Katharine Mehrling will interpret selected songs, and exclusive footage from the film "So, wie es ist, bleibt es nicht – Helene Weigel" by Maria Wischnewski will be shown in advance.
