Drawings by Thomas Schriefers

Since 1851, world exhibitions have brought together people who share a desire to learn from one another. Under the motto "The World in One Place," they reflect virtually all areas of life – from science and politics to culture. They promote dialogue, encourage a change of perspective, and create space for peaceful encounters.

From April 13 to October 13, 2025, Expo Osaka Kansai will take place in Japan under the motto "Designing Future Society for Our Lives."

Against this backdrop, the JDZB presents an exhibition featuring works by Thomas Schriefers, who has been an artistic contributor to world exhibitions for decades. His drawings and collages illustrate the history of the Expos through their often spectacular architecture – with a special focus on German and Japanese pavilions over time.

A selection of these works will also be displayed on the outer wall of the German Embassy in Tokyo starting in February, thus creating a direct link to Japan.
