Anne Grosse-Leege - Photographer from Berlin

What stands between us always has at least two sides. There is always something that separates us from each other, but at the same time there is also something that connects us.

All people have inner landscapes within them. Their foundation stones are laid.

Yet they are neither static nor completely stable, they are enduring and have an unmistakable topography, provide support, can slip, are subject to external influences, are at the mercy of changing weather conditions, a tilled but They are a tilled but often untouched terrain that changes of its own accord and are companions, at least in the medium term. And they are also trailblazers, at varying speeds.

With the composition of the triptychs, a central human motif is juxtaposed with two landscapes that attempt to translate the inner realms of the figure shown into an image. The two neighbouring areas on the right and left not only open up a choice for the viewer; the simple presence of a second stretch of land makes it impossible to ignore other terrains and positions, the existence of a diverse neighbourhood of what is shown.

At the same time, it is again the viewer's inner landscape that determines the interpretation and categorisation of the photograph, and thus everything that arises from the viewing; what emerges in this way differs from viewer to viewer. The repeated viewings of each individual also carry the chance
to evoke something completely different, to take new directions, to rearrange affiliations and form new alliances. For inner landscapes live through seasons, are characterised by empty beds and and worn fruit.

It is therefore possible that we sometimes locate the human connector more with its right-hand neighbour, sometimes with its left-hand neighbour. But do we also realise that something completely different is just a stone's throw away, that it takes a different view, a mediation or just a hunch to pay a visit to another home?

Career of the artist Anne Grosse-Leege:

After creative training and a degree in economics, the artist mastered her professional career as a freelance strategist/designer quite well. She has worked primarily for all the major automotive brands and their management boards in communications and strategy. In her new role as a mum of two minis, I (only) started showing her photos last year. They were taken over the last 12 years. And now she wants other people to enjoy them too. You can find more information about Anne Grosse-Leege, her (photographic) understanding and her approach at https://annegrosseleege.com/. In the ‘Awards & Exhibitions’ section, you can also see the international photography prizes she has entered and won. There are also strong Berlin motifs that can be recognised as such.
