The history app for science in Berlin. A historical journey.

It was here that the Kaiser Wilhelm Society (KWG), founded in 1911 and from which the Max Planck Society emerged in 1948, established its first institutes. For the biochemist Adolf Butenandt, Dahlem was even "the heaven of science". He was not the only one whose work was awarded the Nobel Prize.

The new app uses an audio tour, illustrated with historical images, to tell the story of people whose discoveries changed the world. A GPS-located map guides you to ten stops that can be explored in full in a two-hour walk. Those with less time can shorten the tour as desired or visit only certain stations.

With their castle-like architecture, the historic science buildings do not suggest that they housed high-tech laboratories by the standards of the time when they were built. They served highly specialized research in pioneering fields such as genetics, physical chemistry, or atomic physics.
