The Tanzanian activist Mnyaka Sururu Mboro leads a tour through the Afrikanisches Viertel [African Quarter] in Berlin-Wedding as part of the decentralized exhibition project "Dekoloniale – what remains?!".

As part of the decentralized exhibition project "Decolonial - what remains?!", the "African Quarter" in Berlin-Wedding can be experienced in a new way. After the success of the long-standing commitment of the African and Black communities to renaming three streets, the colonial-propaganda monument of the past has taken on a different character.

The exhibition section "Paths of Remembrance" in the project "Decolonial - what remains?!" on the renaming of the streets that previously honored colonial criminals and now actors of the African resistance provides information about this shift in memory politics.

Mnyaka Sururu Mboro, co-founder of Berlin Postkolonial e.V., leads through the quarter, reflects on the renaming process and how it has promoted the redesign of the culture of remembrance. The focus is on the new namesakes Rudolph and Emily Duala Manga Bell, Anna Mungunda, Cornelius Fredericks and the Maji Maji warriors.

Meeting point: Exit U Afrikanische Str./corner of Swakopmunder Str.
