A virtual reality experience from Kamituga
Want to experience how gold is mined? The Futurium makes it possible! With VR goggles, you descend virtually into a gold mine. You fight your way through a labyrinth of narrow tunnels and learn how arduous and dangerous the work of the gold miners is.

In the new exhibition area ‘How big is my world?’, we show you how important raw materials are mined and the political issues involved. Gold mining is dangerous and is usually paid pitifully.
In interviews, people from the town of Kamituga in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo talk about their experiences. Gold and other critical raw materials are mined and transported away every day for the production of mobile phones, cars and other electrical items.
With VR glasses, you will visit one of the gold mines in Kamituga. Scientists from the ‘Kamituga Digital Gold’ project have scanned the mine with smartphones and modelled it to scale for the VR experience.
By the way: gold is used in all mobile phones because it has excellent electrical conductivity.

The VR installation can be experienced at any time between 12 and 6 pm.
