Sasha Waltz

With humor, aggression and sensuality, Sasha Waltz paints a picture of contemporary morals in “Travelogue I – Twenty to eight” that has lost none of its explosiveness and relevance since its premiere in 1993: a dance classic. To this day, the timeless piece, in which the choreographer herself danced for a long time, continues to delight audiences around the world.

“Travelogue I – Twenty to eight” will be shown in a series in the Sophiensaele and the Radialsystem in spring 2025. On the occasion of the revival, the dance piece will once again be passed on to another generation of dancers.

The Berlin audience was last able to experience “Travelogue I – Twenty to eight” in January 2018 in the Radialsystem. In 2007, the piece, which has accompanied the company and the audience very successfully through many countries for over 30 years, was handed over to a new generation of dancers: The repertoire idea, the "Living Archive", is an important starting point in the artistic work of Sasha Waltz & Guests.

It is a return to the beginning: With "Travelogue I - Twenty to eight", Sasha Waltz founded the dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests together with Jochen Sandig in 1993. The piece, which was created from the dialogue of five dancers from all over the world as part of a scholarship from the Künstlerhaus Bethanien and in co-production with the Grand Theater Groningen, was highly praised by critics and audiences.

Sasha Waltz has developed a choreographic language that is rough and passionate, painful and bizarre, aggressive and ironic, charged with sex and full of absurdities: a wild, sad, angry, ugly beauty.
