Tango chanson evening

Argentinian temperament meets Prussian discipline, passion meets Berlin attitude, drama meets hard work – for four decades Miguel Levin has been bridging the borders between Europe and South America in a flirtatious and profound way. His stage work combines the emotional world of tango with the astute poetry of German chanson.

In his current program, Levin shows the life of a person who feels at home in two worlds:

With tangos by greats such as Astor Piazzolla, Horacio Ferrer, Homero Manzi, Carlos Gardel, Enrique Santos Discepolo, Maria Elena Walsh and Catulo Castillo, he brings the longing for his old home Buenos Aires to the stage. His unique interpretations lead through the melancholic city life of times gone by – into a parallel world in which it rained forever, the macho suffered from unrequited love and women despaired of broken hearts.

But Levin does not leave his audience in a grey world. With the poetry of tango and lively milongas, he comforts and makes the wounded hearts smile again.

Then Levin builds a bridge across the Atlantic and lands in the Germany of decades past: the Weimar Republic, the Adenauer era - a Germany that has become his new home over the last 40 years.

Songs by Marlene Dietrich, Hildegard Knef, Bertolt Brecht, Kurt Weill and Friedrich Hollaender can be heard, and in these chansons we recognize the melancholy, the deep passion and the longing that runs through this Germany.

Levin integrates what is special about Berlin into his program - the dry humor, the slightly dirty, the almost celebrated chaos - and thus shows the interplay of cultures in a way that lets the audience revel in both worlds.
