Kammeroper von Alexander Manotskov

Germany's first chamber opera in Hebrew tells the story of the creation of the world and uses artistic means to turn it into an experience that transcends all religious boundaries.

Somewhere, the world came into being - everyone agrees with this, believers, scientists and children alike. But how do you answer the childish question of where and how the world came into being? The biblical text about the six days of creation and the seventh day of well-deserved rest is transformed into the libretto of a chamber opera.

The audience is invited to take part in a play in which the world is created, the table for the Sabbath meal is laid and the perfection of creation is celebrated. In addition to classical Western instruments, the opera also uses traditional Eastern instruments - Indian harmonica and flute as well as the Persian santoor.

‘The Creation of the World or Kabbalat Shabbat’ is an attempt to unite in a time of division. It is an open invitation to come together.
