Marc Brew & Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui

Marc Brew and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui are joining forces for the first time to create a solo for the artist, who has been in a wheelchair since a serious accident.

Based on their own life stories and key moments, the two choreographers explore what it means when everything in life suddenly turns upside down.

For Marc Brew, it was the car accident that turned him from a ballet dancer to a paraplegic from one second to the next. However, the focus is not just on this one moment, but also on the question of how people deal with such a stroke of fate.

"an Accident / a Life” tells of vulnerability, resistance and the idea of a body as a map of one's own experiences. The two internationally known artists try to find new forms of movement and question socially standardized images of people with disabilities.

Brew's paralyzed body becomes a projection surface for many deeply human questions:

What do we do when our planned life path changes?

How much determination is there in us and can we use it to find new, different paths?

What does it take for society to be able to get closer to one another?

“an Accident / a Life” poignantly shows why life-changing moments do not necessarily have to define who people are, how experiences shape them and how - when they share them - they can learn from one another.
