37th Jewish Culture Days Berlin

Following the success of the literature tent last year, the 37th Jewish Culture Days Berlin will once again reflect the complexity of Jewish culture and identity in the literary voices at Bebelplatz.

For six days, classical texts will enter into dialogue with contemporary works.

On the opening evening, Miriam Bistrovic will present the archive of the Leo Baeck Institute (LBI) and will talk in particular about the ‘Stolpertexte’ project, which makes the testimonies of Jewish people during National Socialism accessible to the public.
This will be followed by the presentation of the volume ‘Wir schon wieder’ , which contains contributions by German-speaking Jewish authors written after 7 October 2023.

The reference to the present plays a decisive role on all evenings:
For example, on 19 September, under the motto ‘Jewish Enlightenment from Moses Mendelssohn to the present day’, the danger of right-wing populism and the strengthening of reactionary forces will be analysed.

As in 2023 , the programme is also aimed at younger readers, for example the city walk in the footsteps of Franz Kafka (from 14 years) or the reading from David Walliams' superhero adventure “Robodog” (from 9 years).
