Architectural tour for the Open Monument Day

There is a former gatehouse at the East Side Gallery. The listed building will be used as a visitor information center in the future and is being extensively renovated. Why was it located on the former border strip and what function did it have in the border system of the Berlin Wall?

What significance does the building have today for the East Side Gallery and its commercialized environment?

On the occasion of the reopening planned for September, the construction coordinator of the Berlin Wall Foundation sheds light on the history of the site.
