The Baltic Sea is the youngest sea on earth. Evolution has taken a unique and fragile path over the last 8,000 years.

FrauVonDa sets off on a journey, dives, listens, marvels and asks: How much do we know about this sea, its inhabitants and their subjective environments?

In 2022/23, FrauVonDa explored acoustic, tactile and visual features in research trips to Ahrenshoop and the autonomous region of Åland in the middle of the Baltic Sea, an archipelago of over 6000 individual islands that formally belongs to Finland, and explored the philosophical and narrative possibilities of the Baltic Sea.

Inspired by the research findings on the sensory perception of marine animals, the millennia-old sturgeon, the symbiotic community structures between bladderwrack, plankton and schools of fish, and not least inspired by the stories of the human inhabitants of the Baltic Sea, FrauVonDa unfolds an idiosyncratic narrative of the Baltic Sea ecosystem.

With texts by Nature Writing author Michaela Vieser, she tells of those who have not been heard, the untold and the unseen - and of the need for balance.

In 2024, FrauVonDa revisits parts of the multi-format panorama. In Berlin and Mariehamn/Åland, parts of the installation and the concert performance will be shown.
