"In A Landscape", Richter's ninth studio album, will be released on Friday, 6 September on Decca Records. The new album represents a significant step in Richter's musical development: The composer delves deeper into the themes of optimism and human emotion, while tapping into electronic sounds and nature recordings in an innovative way.

This recording is about the reconciliation of opposites, the fusion of electronic and acoustic spheres, human and natural worlds, the big questions and quiet joys of life - a fleeting self-portrait of a restless musician.

"In A Landscape" utilises a homogeneous musical language similar to that of Richter's first album "The Blue Notebooks"; the two albums form the beginning and end of an essential chapter in Richter's life and career.

The work enters into an open dialogue with the audience, inviting listeners to reflect on dualities in their own lives - such as personal narratives that come to mind while listening. It is ultimately an invitation to imagine.

Max Richter himself puts it this way: "For me, the music on this recording aims to connect or reconcile polarities. The electronic instruments with the acoustic ones, the natural world with the human world, and the great concepts of life with the very personal and intimate. I had already begun to explore this dynamic in my 2004 recording "The Blue Notebooks", and this new project has much in common with the concerns of that recording; you could say this recording is a new look at the themes of the earlier work, but from the perspective of our contemporary world and reality of life in 2024."

To accompany "In a Landscape", Richter has also announced details of his first world tour, in which the globally acclaimed musician will bow to his international audience. According to the just-released tour schedule, Richter will perform across the UK, Europe, North America, Canada, Australia and Asia in 2024 and 2025.

"In A Landscape" is the first solo album Richter has recorded at Studio Richter Mahr, a minimalist, sustainable creative retreat he designed and runs with his wife, artist Yulia Mahr.

The album focuses on Richter's immediate surroundings and creates an inner space for meditation on the present in the light of a lifetime of artistic influences, from Bach and Purcell to the poetry of Keats, Wordsworth and Anne Carson. Richter also drew inspiration from books he read while composing "In A Landscape"; many of the tracks on this album are based on lines from literary works, and some of his favourite paperbacks are featured on the cover.interspersed between the studio compositions are nine "Life Studies", combinations of recorded environmental sounds from nature and everyday life: footsteps in the forest, eggs boiling in a pot, a suitcase at Hong Kong airport or a person practising Mozart on the piano.

These simple moments of mindfulness, born of Zen-inspired creativity, allude to the title of the album - "Landscape" - and at the same time hark back to those sound finds in Richter's seminal albums "Memoryhouse" from 2002 and "The Blue Notebooks" from 2004.

One of the most influential and recognised composers of his generation, Richter is known for his ability to seamlessly blend traditional orchestrations with modern electronic elements.

After a career spanning decades, Richter's impact on the music industry cannot be overstated. With his unique ability to translate the most profound human experiences into musical compositions, he has built a loyal fan base worldwide; his works have been streamed more than three billion times.

In particular, his groundbreaking album "SLEEP" is one of the most streamed classical albums of all time. His groundbreaking album "The Blue Notebooks" is still capturing new audiences today - it celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2024. The epic centrepiece of the recording, "On The Nature of Daylight", was recently featured in the acclaimed post-apocalyptic drama "The Last Of Us" on HBO and has also been used in numerous other films and television productions over the years.

Last year, Richter performed the entire programme of the album together with Tilda Swinton at the Glastonbury Festival. The actress spoke the lyrics that she had contributed to the recording on stage alongside Richter. In addition to his solo performances, Richter is often involved in collaborative productions and works with renowned creative artists and visionaries from a wide range of styles. From compositions for Dior designer Kim Jones and ballet works for choreographer Wayne McGregor to his scores for film and television productions by directors Denis Villeneuve, Martin Scorsese and Ari Folman, Richter's versatility is his trademark.
