To mark the 200th anniversary of the Association of Architects and Engineers in Berlin-Brandenburg (AIV), the exhibition "Always modern! Berlin and its streets. 200 years of architecture, urban development and civil engineering for Berlin" will take place from September 5th to November 30th. The exhibition will be accompanied by various events.

The initiative begins on September 5th with a symposium on the topic of "Liveable urban spaces of tomorrow!" in the Kronprinzenpalais Unter den Linden. The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, is taking over the patronage of "Always modern!".

The exhibition is planned as an open-air exhibition on the median strip of the Unter den Linden boulevard. The most important achievements and formative plans, but also the breaks in Berlin's urban development, will be presented using important street spaces such as Kurfürstendamm, Bundesallee, Schloßstraße, Swinemünder Straße and Leninallee.

Ten architectural firms have also examined the potential for change in ten main streets in Berlin and Potsdam and developed proposals for redesign. These can be seen in the exhibition section "Great Streets for Tomorrow".

Accompanying the exhibition there are a series of events that discuss current and future topics of urban development, architecture, mobility and infrastructure in the context of the transport and climate transition. Politicians, experts from administration and business as well as engineers, architects, urban planners and landscape architects take part in the debates.

At the end of the initiative, a summary with recommendations for action for all actors and stakeholders involved will be adopted. This document summarizes the results of the debates and presents new perspectives for an integrative planning and building culture that should enable the necessary transformation of the streets in favor of livable and attractive public spaces for everyone.
