A lonely motel in the Arizona desert, nearby: a film set. While the male lead Tom waits for his next scene to be filmed, his wife Chloe waits for the scars from her plastic surgery to heal and for her to be able to use her eyes again, which she had lasered so she didn't have to wear glasses.

Blind and bandaged, she is more dependent than ever on her young assistant Hannah, with whom she repeatedly goes over her text. Unlike Tom, Chloe only got a smaller role in the film and unlike him, the handsome young star, she has to invest more in her middle years: in her looks and in her art.

Three people intertwined in a triangle of desires and dependencies around the empty center of an existence that consists of roles that you attract and fill as best and as intensely as possible until the process feels like life. The emptiness inside the three people is reflected in the external emptiness of the desert, which swallows people and spits them out again - symbolized by a girl who disappears from the filming location and suddenly reappears in the motel room.

Sam Max plays with typical set pieces of American culture and combines classic motifs such as motels, deserts, Hollywood with contemporary reflections on body images, relationships and techniques of self-expression.

Sam Max is working in Germany for the first time and is staging his own text with three ensemble members.
