Sona Jobarteh, Gambian-British musician, is the first professional female kora player to emerge from a prominent West African griot family. She is known for her virtuosity on the kora, a traditional West African harp lute, and for her contributions to the preservation and development of the Mande music tradition.


In addition to her musical career, she is heavily involved in educational projects and founded the Gambia Academy, which is dedicated to cultural and musical education.
