She’s got everything under control. Her boss who expects her to work full time on a part time contract, her parents-in-law, who require long-term care, her workaholic husband. Or a child throwing up at day-care? No problem, she hops on her bike to fetch her offspring. Unfortunately, with all the roadworks on the way, she loses sight of the traffic.

Her amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for anger and fear and is constantly turned down low, still tries to send out an alarm signal — but the SUV is faster, and now there she is, lying on the tarmac. A crack opens up between the life that was still there just a moment ago and imminent death, in which she and the amygdala embark on a bout of space travel.

To an unknown place, where meanings are twisted, expectations unknown, and requisite emotions are completely alien. Ultimately, we are left with this question: will these unknown little ones and the strange hairy guy follow her onto the planet where everything seems to suddenly be free of predetermined roles? Or can this journey only be continued alone? Director Anika Stauch sends Anna Gschnitzer’s characters on a journey into the world backstage of the theatre of parenthood.

Anika Stauch was born in Kronach in 1993. She studied theatre and media studies at the Universität Bayreuth. From 2021 to 2024 she has been assistant director at Schaubühne. She made her directing debut in 2021 with a production of »Im Herzen der Gewalt« at Staatstheater Meiningen.
In 2022, she won the young directors’ competition at Theater Erlangen with her play »trail_thielx«. In 2023, she presented her original play »Bamba (Bauchnabel)« at the State Small Theatre of Vilnius in Lithuania.
