From Al-Nasr in Damascus to Sonnenallee

The city tour by Saad, who fled in 2015, offers a deep insight into the life of a person who, like many others, has left his homeland and now lives in Berlin.

In contrast to guided tours that focus on historical facts and sights, querstadtein's tours emphasise political education and authentic encounters.

Saad is one of 13.8 million displaced Syrians who, according to the UNHCR, are fleeing the war inside and outside the country. Before fleeing, he had already been a city guide in Syria since 1982 and showed tourists around Damascus.

In his tour "Memories of Home", he focuses on Syrian culture, personal stories and a mixture of everyday customs and traditions. He sheds light on topics such as flight, migration, integration and everyday life in Berlin from the perspective of a new Berliner.

The tension between the feeling of home in Berlin through familiar, traditional dishes and the longing for the home of Syria are impressively conveyed.

The highlights of the tour:

  • Personal stories: Saad talks about his own journey to Berlin and the hurdles he had to overcome.
  • Cultural hotspots: Visits to places known for their cultural significance for migrant communities, including local markets.
  • Interactive elements: Participants are invited to actively take part in discussions, ask questions and challenge preconceptions.
With this new tour, querstadtein e.V. aims not only to impart knowledge, but also to build bridges between different cultures.

querstadtein e.V. is a non-profit organisation based in Berlin that offers political education from the perspective of those affected. This includes city tours, audio walks, workshops and exhibitions. The aim is to provide new insights into urban life through unusual perspectives and to promote dialogue.
