Driving grooves, colourful harmonies and sensitive melodic passages are the stuff of which the PLEJADEN*SUITE is made.

The programmatic work by Austrian musician and composer Paul Schwingenschlögl is based on the constellation of the same name and the some critics are reminded of legendary jazz greats such as Miles Davis and Lester Bowie when the PLEJADEN*QUARTETT performs the suite live.

As a composer, Schwingenschlögl draws on his collaboration with American jazz greats and legendary jazz musicians from the GDR, with international colleagues from blues, funk and soul, but also with African, Indian and Russian musicians and bands.

His stylistic spectrum ranges from free sound experiments to psychedelic rock and modern jazz.

When the trumpeter and composer Paul Schwingenschlögl organised the three-day international music festival "Transglobal Counterblast!" in Berlin in 2000 - incidentally with the support of the Jazzkeller 69 e.V. - nobody would have believed that a formation would emerge from the circle of participating musicians that would still be rocking the stage a quarter of a century later with the same passion and the same mission.

"Counterblast" counters established listening habits with a rousing, impetuous, vibrating sound that oscillates between jazz and rock and spells out the power of music transglobally. Complex, fully composed passages from Schwingenschlögl's pen go hand in hand with open improvisation, African rhythms form a brotherhood with hard beats and powerful brass sounds.
