Nick McCarthy, former main songwriter of the indie rock band Franz Ferdinand, left the band in 2016 and moved to Germany, where he continued his musical journey with new projects. In 2020, he met Niklas Mitteregger, a musician and actor from Graz, at the Munich Residenztheater.

Together they founded the duo Nitsch and have been releasing music since 2022, supported by the Berlin label Staatsakt. Their new single and the album, which will be released in September 2024, are both titled "Bar von Josefine", inspired by the Graz cult bar "Cafe Hello Josefine". Nitsch creates a unique mix of Austropop, Italo Disco and indie rock.
