Advent with the boy's choir
On the first weekend of Advent, the unique acoustics of the Friedrichstadtkirche in the French Cathedral will be filled with young, clear, highly professional voices that are rarely heard in the capital. At its 2024 Advent concert, the Berlin Boys' Choir will perform two cantatas by Purcell and Buxtehude from around the same period:

While a triumphant, almost royal gesture predominates in Purcell's work, Buxtehude's cantata is pleading, full of longing and at times melancholic. In this way, the different poles are juxtaposed with the emotional states of Advent.
As the evening progresses, more and more pieces will be sung in a joyful mood and the next generation of the boys' choir will gradually take to the stage.
