At Kunstraum Kreuzberg / Bethanien, works by this year's scholarship holders* from the 34th year of the unique funding and professionalisation programme will be on display.
Lost and found stands for more than "lost property office". The exhibition title - I only work with lost and found - indicates what the works on display have in common despite their diversity: Lost and found refers to cyclical processes of artistic work: lost means losing, but also unlearning, being aware of the empty spaces that have arisen - and thus the possibility of finding them again. The new builds on the old. Found refers to the rediscovery of buried knowledge and previously unknown processes in art and society. In this respect, lost and found also stands for artistic production per se.
On display are works by the 15 participants* of the Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt:
- Painting on canvas and in space,
- photography and multimedia installations,
- processual experimental arrangements,
- performances,
- research-based documentations and sculptures.
Many of the works are cross-genre and defy categorisation; they are based on a cumulative, sustainable, exploratory approach to nature, sources and material. The 15 artists* speak with a polyphonic ego. And with the emphasis on work, working, which means both artistic creation and pursuing a profession. The approach of the artists* in I only work with lost and found is based on processual work; on transitions and connections, on making visible what is concealed. And the desire to actively expand the canon with overlooked and new positions. Work, the successful combination of artistic work and profession, is the core theme of the Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt.
The aim of the renowned programme, which has existed since 1989, is to create equal visibility for the artistic positions of women*.
With its one-year course, the further education project supports female* visual artists in developing professional expertise together in a spirit of solidarity and at the same time bringing their work to the public.
The group exhibition is a cooperation with the Department of Culture and History of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office of Berlin and is organised by Goldrausch project manager Hannah Kruse and colleagues.
