Hello Cello!

The cello, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and our chief conductor Joana Mallwitz welcome you! Dvořák himself had to get used to the instrument first. He was so enthusiastic and inspired by his visit to Niagara Falls during his stay in the USA that he wanted to compose something.

The Cello Concerto in B minor op. 104 combines dramatic, luxuriant, simple and tender melodies with witty, bouncing and excited passages in a unique way. There is time for love, longing and pain, the whole of life is reflected in the music.
