The Hungarian conductor Iván Fischer, born in Budapest in 1951, began his musical career in his hometown, where he studied piano, violin, cello and composition.

He continued his education at the Vienna Music Academy in the conducting class of Hans Swarowsky and completed a formative period as an assistant to Nikolaus Harnoncourt at the Salzburg Mozarteum.

His breakthrough came in 1976 when he won the Rupert Foundation Conducting Competition in London, which marked the start of his international career.

Since then, Fischer has worked as a guest conductor with renowned orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam and the Berlin Philharmonic. His career also includes important positions such as musical director of the Royal Northern Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra and the Kent Opera, as well as chief conductor of the Opéra National de Lyon.

From 2012 to 2018, Fischer was chief conductor of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, which appointed him honorary conductor after his term of office.
