New Quartets from South Africa and Works by Haydn and Schumann

For a number of years, the Signum Quartett has explored music from South Africa, home to its violist, Xandi van Dijk. With 2024 marking the 30th anniversary of the end of apartheid, the ensemble has invited some of the country’s most innovative musical voices to reflect their experiences from the past three decades in new compositions for string quartet.

These commissions will be presented at the Pierre Boulez Saal framed by repertoire classics by Haydn and Schumann.

  • Denise Onen - New Work for String Quartet
  • Njabulo Phungula - New Work for String Quartet
  • Monthai Masebe - New Work for String Quartet
