Berg / Webern / Schönberg / Brahms

As is well known, Arnold Schönberg's chamber symphony once led to "Watschn" in Vienna; today the virtuosic handwork only takes place on stage when violinist Isabelle Faust takes on the challenging and therefore rarely played piece.

Some of the great works of early new music culminate in the melancholy of Brahms' Clarinet Quintet on this evening of chamber music.

The performance of Brahms' clarinet quintets corresponds to the chamber music afternoon event of the Berlin Philharmonic on September 15th. with the performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's standard-setting clarinet quintet and Wolfgang Rihm's response and continuation of this important clarinet quintet tradition.
