Berliner Philharmoniker, Paavo Järvi, Seong-Jin Cho, Guillaume Jehl

Seong-Jin Cho, artist in residence with the Berlin Philharmonic in the 2024/25 season, is considered a poet on the piano, but also says he has a penchant for black humor. This is demonstrated not least by the work he chose for this program: Dmitri Shostakovich's Concerto for Piano and Trumpet, which brilliantly parodies the genre of the piano concerto.

In contrast to this is Anton Bruckner's First Symphony with its tonal opulence, solemnity and spirituality. The Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi sets the mood for the evening with an overture by Veljo Tormis.
