Jelka Weber, who received her first flute lessons at the age of eight, began studying at the Munich University of Music in 1990. During her training she was already a member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

As a scholarship holder at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Academy from 1994 to 1996, she was taught by Andreas Blau and in 1996 she joined the Magdeburg Philharmonic as principal flutist. After a year in Magdeburg, she moved to the Berlin Philharmonic in 1997.
