Susanna Mälkki, conductor; Saariaho / Mahler

Music that knows death but wants to grasp the value of life is encountered in this program by the Staatskapelle Berlin under Susanna Mälkki. Gustav Mahler's Song of the Earth was written immediately after the death of his daughter. Hush is the last completed work by Kaija Saariaho, whose premiere the composer was unable to experience.
