Anyone who goes to the magical kingdom of the elves has to expect something unusual. Strange creatures can be found there, magical sounds cause wondrous things.



Oberon, king of the elves, rules here and plays games with people using helpful spirits. These are thrown from one moment to the next from one situation to another, and from one feeling to the next.


An exciting story full of surprises develops when the human and spirit worlds come together. Almost exactly 200 years ago, Carl Maria von Weber composed his opera Oberon, his last stage work ever, highly romantic, extremely lively music with knightly splendor, melodic bliss and an enchanting “elven atmosphere”.


Awarded the OPUS KLASSIK Prize in 2020, the Berlin Children's Opera House is a mainstay of the educational work at the Unter den Linden State Opera. The projects give primary school children a wide range of opportunities to create and perform musical theater works from their own perspective.


In addition to the Unter den Linden State Opera, 20 cooperation partners are involved in the Berlin Children's Opera House, including primary and music schools, the Caritas Association and Alba Berlin. There are regional children's opera houses in the Lichtenberg district, where Regina Lux-Hahn's initiative was launched in 2010, as well as in Marzahn-Hellersdorf, Reinickendorf and (from September 2023) Neukölln,


At which sophisticated musical theater productions are realized every year. In addition, 13 primary school groups provide free social and artistic support on site. Since 2018, the children's opera house has been represented in six Berlin districts, with the threads coming together at the State Opera.


Every year, an ambitious production is realized here in the children's opera house Unter den Linden together by children and opera professionals.


The Berlin Children's Opera House is supported as a city-wide cultural education project by the BJF Senate Administration and co-financed by the participating districts.
